I just stumbled on this piece I saw about 3 or 4 years ago and it had the same effect it had back then: I got shivers down my spine. This is a deliciously delivered short created by Swiss artist/director Ben Hibon for MTV Asia. It was broadcast as both a standalone short film and used to brand the MTV Asia Music Video Awards. I believe that capturing the essence of Ben Hibon's illustration style with such accuracy and respect was best trick of the animation team.
Hibon moved to London in 1996 to study Graphic Design at Central Saint Matins College of Art and Design, followed by a Masters Degree at the same school. Codehunters was produced by Bart Yates for Blinkink, animated and CG supervised by Stuart Aitken of studio Axis Animation, sound design and music by Joris de Man and the post-production by The Mill.
If you are interested in learning more about how this piece was made, studio Axis created this insightful documentary on how the look of the animation was achieved:

Gorgeous, gorgeous animation and after effects! I love how nothing stands out as ‘3d modelled’ like you notice in some computer-assisted animation
