I’ve been recently think­ing about Pixar’s land­mark Luxo ani­ma­tion and all the bad imi­ta­tions that have been sprout­ing around the world. Don’t take me wrong, you can learn by imi­tat­ing the best, but you should at least make a good effort of it so you can soak it up, but I will dis­cuss that on another post. Today I found out that a Nor­we­gian lamp maker called Luxo has filed a copy­right infringe­ment law­suit against Pixar Ani­ma­tion Stu­dios and the Walt Dis­ney Com­pany for a lamp that they are think­ing of includ­ing with a lim­ited edi­tion Blu-ray release of their lat­est film ‘Up’.

Luxo says that sell­ing a lamp based on their 1986 char­ac­ter will cause them ‘dev­as­tat­ing dam­age’. I really hope they can reach an agree­ment, per­haps by comis­sion­ing the Nor­we­gian com­pany to make the lamps? (*hint), because I wouldn’t mind get­ting one of those for myself (*dou­ble hint).
