Here’s a short film I completed a couple of years ago as I started to get back into more personal work.

Episode 1, with the amazingly unlucky Captain Cannon by Nicola Lemay, an animation filmmaker and storyboard artist from Montreal, Quebec.

This is the final film project for my time at Vancouver Film School’s classical animation program (class-mate with prior posted “The Bet” film-maker Miguel Otálora)
All artwork, animation and rendering was done by me (Matthew Wade) and the soundtrack was recorded and mixed by Jacob Kinch. Features the voice acting of Sara Lynch.
For the best results, I suggest people watch it with headphones on, as the sound mix is pretty sweet.
Hope you enjoy. Thanks.

Now this is a very special work, created by the wonderfully twisted brain of Tom Bland and London based freelance animator and illustrator.

He created this for a short film competition as well as for fun and practise.

The competitions theme was ‘B Movie’ and all entries should be about 3 minutes long. He won the competition but only one other person entered it that time.

The Vancouver Film School keeps harvesting unique animators with some beautiful skills, this one was created by Miguel Otálora a graphic designer from the Colombia’s Universidad Nacional and traditional animator from the Vancouver Film School.

An out of control bullet is the result of a bet in a small dive bar. The Bet is an absurd journey of blood and black humor that will end in the same place where it shouldn’t have started.

Original soundtrack by Solo Etra and sound design by Jacob Kinch.

This animation is just delicious. A perfect example of what happens when good animation skills meets technology.

Moignon looking for a girlfriend on Face-de-Bouc, dressed in a beautiful princess, while Coin-Coin, a valiant knight, sets out in search of events and adventures. Fight epic sub-atomic explosions “should not touch the yogurt Coin-Coin…”

This episode was aired on CANAL+ on June 27, 2010.

A little girl’s curiosity is sparked by a mysterious creature as she plays in her grandparents’ barn.

Meet Meline is a hyper-realistic and beautifully short film is an independent production by Virginie Goyons and Sebastien Laban. It took 2 years to finish. On their own they completed all the pre-production including script, concepts, previz, characters, set design, sound research and the production, which consisted in the 26 individual shots that form the 7 minutes long of this film.

The sound design was a contribution by Cedric Denooz and the music by Guillaume Roussel. As a nice addition they’ve created this insightful “making of…” documentary.

This is a fabulous, back to basics, unpretentious animated short, where all that matters is a story well told. I admire enormously the animations that can convey amazing amounts of information without any dialogue.

This is a truly wonderful piece. Written, directed and animated by Lee kyu-tae, sound by Gwon young-hwan and the music was composed by Shin hyun-mo.

This truly inspired stop motion work by Haley Morris is a visual metaphor for the progression of Alzheimer’s. This six minute story portrays an old man who’s struggling to keep hold of the objects he manages to fish out of the ominous ocean beneath him.

The technique seems outstandingly suited for the subject and is clear that Haley has witnessed the damaging effects of this terrible mental deterioration, you can tell when the creating force comes from the heart. That’s probably why it won a well deserved Best Animated Short award at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2009.
