A lonely circus performer ambles the woods reminiscing of his long lost friend. This sombre and charismatic project is the creation of Michael Amstad, Philipp Halfmann, Volker Langholz, Benjamin Lützow and Dominik Mader who are known as Hylas Films, an animation collective based in Berlin.

Circus is the first of a suspense stop-motion series, a concept pretty novel in itself and interestingly, the camera angles seem quite challenging for this kind of animation but supportive of the genre the authors are after. There’s an intriguing contrast between the grotesque look of the main character and his soft slow actions, kind of like a friendly monster. It will definitely be interesting to see how this project develops.
