This wonderful piece was animated by Mariana Villegas Flores a Mexican born animator during her studies at the Vancouver Film School. The character’s performance is convincing and manages to say a lot without the need of dialogue, further more, Mariana manages to give the sea a personality of its own.

She says about the short: “A soul-searching and challenging journey takes place in The Locket and the Sea. While playing by the seashore, a little girl must muster up her courage to reclaim a most beloved object taken from her unexpectedly by the ocean, although the challenge may not be exactly the dangerous tide of the waves as it seems”
The film was made in five months.
