This won­der­ful piece was ani­mated by Mar­i­ana Vil­le­gas Flo­res a Mex­i­can born ani­ma­tor dur­ing her stud­ies at the Van­cou­ver Film School. The character’s per­for­mance is con­vinc­ing and man­ages to say a lot with­out the need of dia­logue, fur­ther more, Mar­i­ana man­ages to give the sea a per­son­al­ity of its own.

She says about the short: “A soul-searching and chal­leng­ing jour­ney takes place in The Locket and the Sea. While play­ing by the seashore, a lit­tle girl must muster up her courage to reclaim a most beloved object taken from her unex­pect­edly by the ocean, although the chal­lenge may not be exactly the dan­ger­ous tide of the waves as it seems
