More than a teaser, this is a mouth watering appetizer created by Headless Productions, a small independent animation studio based in Barcelona. It was founded by Adrian Garcia, Alfredo Torres and Victor Maldonado.
The piece was developed in order to convey mood and style of the film and the characters, it was screened at the CTNexpo event in Los Angeles last November with, as you would expect, an exceedingly good reception. Enjoy!
Hi! this is my first short. It’s traditional animation on backgrounds made of different types of fabrics. I hope you enjoy the misadventures of Huguito.
Directed by Carlos Molina, María Medel, Laura Medina, Bibiana Varela and Jorge Vicario. Madrid, Spain. Esdip 2010.
This is a shortfilm made at the end of our student year. We made it under 3 months with a lot of work. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it :D
I just bumped into this great animation I saw a couple of years ago and I thought I should share it here in case some of you haven’t seen it. It was written and animated by Carlos Lascano as part of the Red Bull program organised together with the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, collecting creatives from around the world.
It beautifully combines multiple animation techniques, like using real human eyes for the main character, just as Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski did on Madame Tutli-Putli . Puppet style animation in After Effects (presumably), touches of frame by frame animation, lots of very detailed texturing and a successful colour grading in post-production.
It got featured on Motionographer and Drawn back in 2008 and it was awarded a Honorable Mention in 2D animated film at The Hyde Tube Festival 2009 in Paris.
I must say I found this stunning animation quite scary in a beautiful way. The concept is very clever and the animation exquisitely delivered. A curious young girl prances down a snowy street when something catches her eye that perhaps shouldn’t have. Your brain bounces back between awe and tension. It’s really quite clever. The fact that Alma is Spanish for ‘soul’ will make a lot of sense once you’ve seen it.
The attention to detail shows from the outset the love and dedication that has been put in its production. It is really a pleasure to watch, the only ting wrong with it is that you wish it was longer. I guarantee it will leave you gaging for more!
Alma is Rodrigo Blaas’ first short film as a director. Originally from Spain, Rodrigo Blaas has worked in animation for more than ten years, in Spain and in the United States.
Seizing the possibility of directing his first independent short film, Rodrigo Blaas asked some of the best artists in their field to take part in this independent project: French animator Bolhem Bouchiba, character designer Carlos Grangel and Sergio Pablos, ArtDirector Alfonso Blaas, music composer Mastretta and sound designer Tom Myers.
